A 5-scene walkthrough

See how a slipped date
gets handled in 47 seconds.

A foreman’s framing job slipped two days. Follow it from his phone in the truck, into the GC’s inbox, through a cascade preview, all the way to the new dates landing on every sub’s schedule.

01The Schedule

One source of truth. Drag bars to reschedule.

The GC builds the master schedule in Relay. Each activity has an assigned sub, a start and end date, and a status. Everyone with access sees the same picture — no more 'I thought you said next Wednesday.'

In progress

Framing is in progress — that’s the activity our story follows. Lumber delivery just slipped two days at the supplier. The foreman finds out at 9:38 AM.

02From the field

The foreman taps two buttons. That’s the whole UI.

Subs and foremen don’t install an app. They don’t even have a password. They get an email link, see only their own activity, and have exactly two buttons: mark complete, or request a schedule change.

Marcus, 9:38 AM:
“Lumber delivery slipped 2 days. Need to push end date Fri → Tue.”
A
No app. No password.
Email OTP login. Installs to home screen via PWA — works like a native app, no App Store gatekeeping.
B
Only their own work.
Marcus never sees the full schedule. He only sees Framing. That’s privacy and clarity in one design decision.
C
Two taps to submit.
A reason, a number of days, and send. The request includes his name, the timestamp, and the activity context automatically.

Marcus tapped “Request schedule change” at 9:38 AM and proposed a +2-day shift. The request fires off to the GC’s inbox in real time.

03The Inbox

Every field change lands in one place.

No more searching through group texts to figure out who said what. Every schedule change request, every completion confirmation — all queued in the GC’s inbox with full context.

Schedule change
Can start a day early if framing wraps Thursday. Want me to?

The GC sees Marcus’s request at the top of the inbox. Clicking “Approve & cascade” opens a preview of what will actually happen to the rest of the schedule.

04The Cascade

See the ripple before you commit.

A 2-day push to Framing doesn’t just move one bar — it shifts four downstream activities. The cascade preview shows exactly what will change, who’s affected, and gives you three options: cascade everything, approve without cascading, or revert.

The GC clicks Cascade. All 4 affected subs get an email with their new dates. The schedule updates in real time on every device. Every action is logged.

05Resolved

47 seconds. One audit trail entry.

From the moment Marcus tapped 'Request schedule change' to the moment four subs got their new dates, less than a minute elapsed. Every step is on the record — who did what, when, and why.
